Alopecia areata affects both sexes equally and may, but does not always, progress to significant hair loss. This disease has varying degrees and affects 5.2 million people in the United States alone. The majority of our recipients live with alopecia, an auto-immune disorder that causes the hair follicles to shut down. Others have experienced hair loss from radiation therapy and chemotherapy, severe burns or trauma, and various other genetic and dermatological conditions. So, if you have long hair and you’re planning to make the cut, consider donating your hair to one of these organizations as a simple way to make an impact on someone’s life.Most of our recipients suffer from the autoimmune disease, alopecia areata. Children with hair loss asks for a minimum hair donation of 8 inches, they accept gray hair, they prefer non-chemically treated hair, but will accept any hair in good condition, and require that hair be ponytailed or braided upon donating. The requirements for this organization include, hair donations should be at a minimum of 10 inches, but the organization will accept some 7-9 inch donations, hair should be less than 10% gray, and hair should be free of chemical processing.Ĭhildren with Hair Loss is a non-profit organization that provides free human hair replacement for children and young adults dealing with hair loss because of a medical condition such as cancer or alopecia, etc. Wigs4Kids is an organization that provides real-hair wigs to children living in Michigan between the ages of 8-13. The requirements for this program are, hair donations must be 8 inches, hair cannot have any previous dyes, bleaches, or chemicals, and there cannot be more than 5% gray in the hair that is donated. Pantene Beautiful Lengths is a program started by the hair care brand, where you can donate either 8 inches of hair or 8 dollars, to help provide free real-hair wigs to women battling cancer and dealing with medical hair loss. However, hair is not acceptable if it has been bleached in the past. 10 inches is the minimum length of hair that can be accepted and permed and colored hair is accepted. Locks of Love provides hairpieces for children dealing with medical hair loss, who cannot afford to buy them on their own. Locks of Love is the most well-known hair donation organization.
